Chios is located at Northeastern Aegean Islands. It is well known for its mastic, an historical island with medieval villages, Byzantine mansions and monasteries and ancient monuments. An island that has given us many important personalities of Greece and is known for its festivals full of tradition, history and culture.
At the city of Hios or Hora, you can see many old houses, the port, the Kara Ali monument, the Byzantine castle, the traditional market, the Archaelogical Museum as well as many other sights.
Dont miss Pyrgi, the town with the geometric exterior house paintings. Other tourist attractions are Anemona, Vrontados, Volissos, Kataraktis, Karfas, Kardamyla, Mesta, Karyes and Kalamoti. Chios is a lovely island with many crowded or deserted beaches, perfect for summer vacations. Some famous beaches are Agia Markela, Mavra Volia, Limia, Komi, Kalimassia Agia Photia and Lilika.
The average temperatures in Chios range from 10 degrees Celsius (50F) in January to 26 degrees (78F) during July and August. The summer tourism takes mainly from May to October with peak months in July and August.
Chios can be reached by plane to Chios airport or through Athens airport and then by ship.
