Achaia is located in northern Peloponnese, with a population of 214,000 inhabitants. The city of Patras is the capital of the county, an international shopping center with a major port and a hub for trade and communication with Italy and the European West. The city is famous for the largest European, Mediterranean- style carnival, the famous Carnival of Patras.

In Achaia you may visit the Patras port, the Apollo Theater, the grove Dassylio the Roman Castle, the ancient Odeon, the Mycenaean cemetery, the ancient Roman aqueduct, the Archaeological Museum and of course the giant bridge of Rio Antiriou that since 2004 united the Peloponnese with mainland Greece.

Also see the historical Kalavryta, with the excellent ski resort, the historic monasteries of Agia Lavra and the Great Cave and the Vouraikos river that crosses the famous cog railway.

The average temperature in Patras ranges from 10 degrees Celsius (50F) in January to 27 degrees (80F) in July and August. Summer tourism mainly lasts from May to October with peak months of July and August.
