Epirus is located in the northwest of Greece, which includes the prefectures of Arta, Ioannina, Preveza and Thesprotia. The area offers a large number of archaeological monuments, museums, monasteries etc.. Largest city and capital is Ioannina.
In Arta, visit the capital city of Arta with the mansions, the castle, the Town Clock and Byzantine monuments and churches. At the entrance of the town there is the famous and legendary stonebuild bridge of Arta, also see the Archaeological Museum. At the wetlands of Amvrakikos bay 250 bird species are protected. In mountainous Metsovo are many historic houses, narrow cobbled streets, the Water Power Museum, the Averof Gallery and many other attractions. The ancient Dodoni except the remarkable site of the ancient city also offers the archaeological museum, monuments and features an excellent, rugged beauty of the mountainous landscape. Zagorochoria are 46 mountain villages, untouched in time with a unique beauty in the forests of the region.
In Preveza, visit the town of Preveza with the busy port, the picturesque houses and beaches. Zalogo area, apart from the rich history during the Ottoman period, you can visit plenty of beaches, restaurants and a summer tourist attractions. Parga town offers several beaches, mansions, narrow streets and attractions like the islet of the Virgin Mary with the Church.
Thesprotias, capital Igoumenitsa, is a coastal town with a sizeable modern port with many destinations in Greek Islands and Italy. Igoumenitsa has several beaches, lush mountains, shops. Also see the Ragiou tower and the Municipal Art Gallery. Sivota is a remarkable resort with several beaches, green hills and traffic. The average temperature in Western Macedonia range from 2 degrees Celsius (36F) in January to 24 degrees (75F) during July and August. The Winter Tourism runs mainly from October to March.
On the Continent you can arrive by plane at the airports of Ioannina, Preveza or via Athens or Thessaloniki airport and then drive.
